About 90% of scholarships have deadlines. A few have deadlines in September through December and a few have deadlines in May and June. Use your time wisely and start your scholarship search early in your senior year.

Local Scholarships to Research

SAN CARLOS APACHE TRIBAL COUNCIL:  Has funding available for SCHS students up to $100,000.  For an application and details, contact Mr. Fred M. Ferreira, Education Director, San Carlos Ed. Dept. 475-2336.

CAMERON ANTONIO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Open to graduating seniors. Tribal membership and documented CIB is required.  2.00 or better gpa is required.  Enrollment in a 2 or 4 year college/university required.  $1,000.00 awarded ($500.00 per semester) Deadline: April 30th.

APACHE GOLD CASINO SCHOLARSHIP Open to graduating seniors.  Applications available through Casino Management.  Deadline: TBD

APACHE TRIBE HIGHER-EDUCATION GRANT:  For enrolled members of the tribe with documented CIB.  High school graduate, 2.0 gpa or better.  ACT: 22+, SAT 930+.  Student must demonstrate financial need.  Awar amounts vary.  Deadline: June 30th.

MICHAEL J. BUSH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  Student must have attended San Carlos H.S. for three years.  Participation in at least two varsity sports.  Accepted to a college or university.  Essay is required.  Deadline: May 10th. $1,500.00 awarded. 

CHALO'S (REYNOSO FAMILY) SCHOLARSHIP:  Student must demonstrate financial need.  Family selects recipient from graduating seniors.  Essay required.  $500.00 awarded - Deadline: May 5th. 

CARL’S JR. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:  $1,000.00 awarded to sixty students. Contact (507) 931-1682. Deadline: February 1st.

CHIEF TALKALAI HEALTH SCHOLARSHIP:  CIB required and interest in a health professional career.  Must submit educational plan and an essay by deadline.  Contact: Jonathan Chee at 475-2282. Awards vary. Deadline: June 30th.

COBRE VALLEY COMMUNITY HOSPITAL AUXILIARY:  Gila County resident enrolled as a fulltime student in a medical field of study.  $500.00 awarded deadline: April 25th.

ELKS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP:  Club will provide application through high school counselors.  Award varies. Contact: Ed Warner 425-7715. deadline: January

GILA COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION:  Contact Brian Chambers, 425-3231, ext. 8630. Deadline is usually in April or May. 

GILA COUNTY CATTLEWOMEN SCHOLARSHIP:  Must be 4-H member. Award varies. Deadline: April 25th

GILA COUNTY COWBELLES EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP:  Gila County  high school graduate with an  agricultural career planned. Interest letter required. Contact: Betty Sue Conway, (928)474-2247.  Amount: based on donations received by the group.  Deadline: March 15th.  Recipient will be notified by April

GLOBE-MIAMI DEMOCRATIC WOMEN'S CLUB:  Must submit letter of interest to club.  Contact:  Annie Escobedo 425-3231, ext. 8559. Deadline: April 30th.

GOVERNOR ROSE MOFFARD SCHOLARSHIP:  Enrolled in an Arizona school of higher learning.  Deadline: May 1st. 

HEADSTART PARENT POLICY COUNCIL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP:  Applicants must be able to verify previous Headstart attendance and be eligile to graduate from high school in May.  Two scholarships awarded - $500.00 each.  Deadline: March 31st.

INTERTRIBAL TIMBER COUNCIL (TRUMAN PICARD) SCHOLARSHIP:  For enrolled tribal members.  Requires letter of interest, resume, three letters of reference plus application to college in area of natural resources.  $1,200.00 awarded. Deadline: April 4th.

MT. TURNBULL SANITATION SERVICES SCHOLARSHIP:  Enrolled tribal member plus CIB.  300 word essay on an environmental issue is required.  Award amount varies.  Deadline: May 5th. Phone: (928) 475-3788 in Peridot.

SAN CARLOS TRIBAL FORESTRY-NATURAL RESOURCES PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP:  Tribal enrollment.  Natural science college interest preferred.  Application, resume and three letters of recommendation required.  $1,500.00 Awarded. Deadline April 25th.

SALTON L. REEDE, SR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  $2,000.00 Deadline: TBD

SOUTHEASTERN ARIZONA CULTURAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM:  3.00 gpa, essay, work four weeks as an intern during the summer and receive $600.00 stipend plus a one time $500.00 for college in the fall.  Deadline: April 5th. 

DON A. TATMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (SAN CARLOS APACHE TELECOMMUNICATIONS UTILITY, INC. {SCATUI}):  Tribal enrollment.  Admitted to a 2 or 4 year college.  2.00 gpa and an expressed interest in the communications field.  $1,000.00 awarded.  Deadline: usually mid-March. 

ALICE AND CLARENCE WESLEY SCHOLARSHIP:  $1,000.00 awarded. Deadline: TBD

GEORGE BELVADO JR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  Local scholarship deadline undetermined; to a baseball player and a softball player accepted to college; $2,000.00 shared. 

BURGER KING SCHOLARS: Deadline 12/15/09 Nominated 2.5+ GPA; works average of 15 hrs a week, 40 weeks a year, $1,000.00

ROBERT C. BYRD SCHOLARSHIP:  Deadline: March, competitive based on application; $1,500.00 per year for 4 years. 

CHARLES MULL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: San Carlos Lake Development Corporation. Deadline May, Tribal Membership, 3.0 gpa, essay; $2,000.00 to 15,000 over four years.

DESERT SCHOOLS FEDERAL CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIPS:   GPA – 3.00 proof of 50 hours of community service project(s), Must be a relative or active member of the DS credit union. Deadline: 2/26/10. Call (602)-335-4213.  Deadline 2/26

 

PATRICIA REYNOLDS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  This scholarship is new 2010 and will be awarded for the first time to a graduating senior with a 2.5gpa.  $500.00 award upon enrollment in college or trade school for the school year is being offered by the Safford Funeral Home.  See the counselor for an application.  Deadline: May 6th

 

PERIDOT COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP:  The award is made to a student who plans to attend a college, university, or trade school outside of Graham or Gila Counties.   Student must also reside in the Peridot district to be considered for the scholarship.  Award: $2,000.00 (upon proof of enrollment).  Deadline:  May 11th 

 

PHOENIX SUNS SCHOLARSHIPS:  GPA 2.5 or better, original typed 400-word essay required. Evidence of volunteer and/or community service required.  See counselor for an application.  Deadline: January.

 

SUNKIST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  Student must be interested in career in agriculture.  $2,000.00 per year up to $8,000.00 maximum.  Contact (by mail only): Claire Smith, P.O. Box 7888, Van Nuys, CA 91409-7888.  Deadline:  April.
