Purpose & Goals Of Career Exploration Resource Guide

Career Exploration is the first level of Career and Technical Education in the San Carlos Unified School District. The purpose of The Career Exploration program is to introduce the 7 San Carlos Career Fields and the 16 National Career Clusters to seventh and eighth grade students. The students will have the opportunity to explore the Career Fields and Clusters with classroom instruction and hands on lab experiences related to specific careers. The program allows students to attain technical skills, life skills and career exploration necessary for further education and the workplace.

7-8 Curriculum

·         Continue academic and technical literacy

·         Complete Careers Exploration program for all 7th & 8th graders

·         Access Career Cruising Information System for:

o    16 national career cluster information

o    Job market information

o    Post-secondary education, training information

·         Complete technology skills and career projects

7-8 Electronic Portfolio

·         Develop an individual electronic portfolio

·         Take interest/aptitude assessments

·         Choose career clusters that match interests and strengths

·         Explore post-secondary options in chosen clusters

·         Begin developing an Education & Career Action Plan (ECAP)

·         Register for high school courses
